Namo Buddha Short Hike: Discovering Scenic Routes

One of the most well-known and popular day hikes is the Namo Buddha Hiking Trail. It is a beautiful chance to gain a peek at the many cultures, faiths, and landscapes.

In terms of culture, the area is home to the Tamang and Newari ethnic groups. Prepare yourself for some breathtaking vistas of rhododendron bushes, holy and historic temples, and monasteries, including Namo Buddha, Indreshwar Mahadev Temple, and Brahmayani Temple, as well as the Himalayas with their snow-capped peaks.

The Namobuddha monastery, also known as Thrangu Tashi Yangtse, is the primary attraction of the Namobuddha day hike. It is a historical Karma Kagyu traditional Tibetan Buddhist monastery that trains novice monks of all ages. According to legend, a nobleman named Mahasattva (the seventh incarnation of Lord Buddha) promised to feed a hungry tigress and her several undernourished pups. The memory of this incident is on a beautiful stone slab situated adjacent to the stupa.

From the settlement of Dhulikhel, the hike begins. The journey takes a leisurely three hours and weaves through rural roads and pathways, passing nearby settlements. It's typical to see local ladies sitting outdoors and handweaving traditional clothing. The excursion concludes at a stupa (Buddhist temple) next to the monastery, at 1,750 meters (5,741 feet). There are expansive views of the Himalayas.

Program ( 2 Days )

Drive to Dhulikhel and Hike to Namo Buddha

We start our hike from Dhulikhel, a breathtaking location 30 kilometers southeast of Kathmandu in the Kavre Palanchowk region. We will drive to Dhulikhel in the morning, which takes about 2-3 hours. Due to its stunning natural surroundings and rich history, the location is famous among locals for picnics and short excursions.

From Dhulikhel, a trekking track travels through the forest and towns. The duration is 6 hours. We can stop to admire the fresh air, dense forest, and beautiful landscape. We will arrive at the monastery, eat lunch, and tour the neighborhood. Also, we will stay at the guesthouse near the monastery.

Following that, we shall descend to Panauti, another typical old Newari settlement. We will travel through the forest and the beautiful rice fields. We'll spend some time seeing the region before returning to Kathmandu before the sun sets. Panauti is another beautiful location where we will complete our hike. The town is home to a number of temples worth seeing, including Indreswari Temple, Bhadrakali Temple, Pashupati Temple, and Tola Narayan Temple, as well as the Panauti Museum and Panauti Durbar Square complex.
