  • Ama Dablam, Nepal

The mountaineers have to cross difficult ice rocks and steep snow climbing on their route. Mountaineers usually have to pitch 3 high camps while climbing Ama Dablam (6812 m.).

The climbers have to pass the toughest passing through the saddle ridges and then should turn to the north, climbing up through the rocky ground and through the boulder from base to camp 1 .

From Camp I - one has to cross the rocky bowl and climb the ridge through fixed lines to Camp 2 . The climbing route from Camp 2 is mostly with the steep mixed alleyways of rock, ice and snow. The route leads to the slope following snow ground and then passes through steep snow and ice tunnel then finally along the snow ridge go to Camp 3 . From camp 3 to the summit is steep climb on snow and ice to the right of a huge hanging glacier.

From the top of Mt. Ama Dablam, one can see very charming scenery of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Island peak, Makalu, Khumbu Himal and rest of the snowcapped surrounded mountains can be envisioned.

Program ( 46 Days )

On the day of your arrival, a Creative Adventure Nepal representative will pick you up from the airport and help you check in to one of our hotels in Kathmandu. You can stretch your body after a long flight and maybe relax while you can.

We have allotted days two and three for helping you prepare for the Mt. Ama Dablam expedition. It is compulsory to attend a briefing at the Ministry of Tourism Nepal. You can use this day to buy essential goods. Don’t worry, our agent will help you get crucial goods.

We will catch an early morning flight to Lukla (one of the most dangerous airports in the world) after breakfast. When we arrive at Lukla's Tenzing-Hillary Airport after flying above the breathtaking lush hills and snowcapped mountains, you will be amazed by the most scenic air routes in the world. Later on, we meet the rest of our team in Lukla and begin our journey to Phakding. For you to get accustomed to the climate, we will be staying at Phakding. The trek is relatively short. Overnight stay at a lodge or a camp.

After breakfast, we set out on our journey. Our path takes us through pine forests and alongside the Dudh Koshi River. We can see Mt. Thamserku (6,608m) on our right after an hour of walking. Likewise, we continue our journey through lush pine, fir, and juniper forests before arriving in Namche Bazaar via a few suspension bridges. The small town serves as the central trading hub for the Everest region. Stay the night in Namche Bazaar.

Today is an acclimatization day.  We can wander through Namche's charming villages, meet the Sherpa people and learn about their culture. Or, we can also hike up to the Everest View Hotel for a better view of the majestic Mt. Everest. Also, you can visit the local museum that exhibits the area's native flora and fauna and the history of the Mount Everest region.

We continue our trek along the Everest route. We pass through beautiful villages and cross the Dudh Koshi River while enjoying spectacular views of Himalayan peaks such as Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam along the way. After ascending a steep trail, we arrive at the Tengboche Monastery. Overnight stay at a lodge or a camp.

On this day, we begin our trek from Tengboche towards Ama Dablam base camp. The Base Camp is a large open meadow at the base of Mount Ama Dablam. Overnight at Ama Dablam Base Camp.

Our climbing for Ama Dablam begins on day nine. Usually, there are three camps in Ama Dablam for climbing above the base camp (4,570m), but we can only use two for sleeping as it is more appropriate in such conditions. The most common route for climbing is the South-West Ridge. The ascent from Base Camp to Camp One is one of the expedition's most difficult days. We stay at Camp One for acclimatization. From Camp One, we follow fixed lines and install new ropes for ascent and descent. The route from Camp Two to Camp Three is made from rock, snow, and loose ice in places. The climb from Camp Three to the summit is relatively easy. We return to the base camp after summiting the peak.

From Mt. Ama Dablam base camp, we make our way towards Pheriche. Pheriche is a popular rest point for hikers and climbers. It is a village in eastern Nepal's Khumbu region, about 4,371 m (14,340 ft) above the Tsola River. Overnight stay at lodge or camp at Pheriche.

After leaving Pheriche, the trail ascends the Khumbu drainage. After an hour, we climb steeply up the terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. Halfway up the moraine is Dughla, a small tea shop of guesthouses where you can stop for coffee or tea. Furthermore, we continue the trail and come across a memorial for those souls who lost their lives on Mt. Everest. The trail continues a path on the west side until it reaches Lobuche.

From Lobuche, we begin our trek to Pumori Base Camp. The base camp for the Mt. Pumori expedition is set at approximately 5,300 meters.

We will begin to climb for about 4 hours through the glaciers to reach Camp One at 5700m. Also, we will climb 480 meters on a 40 to 60-degree slope and pass through a snow wall to get to Camp two at 6200 meters on a narrow ridge.

We will climb for 450 meters from camp two through the ice with 30-60 degree slopes, passing through ice walls and crevasses. Avalanches are at risk from large seracs hanging on the shoulder above. Moreover, we will establish camp three on the ridge at 6480 meters. Finally, we can climb through crevasses to the Pumori cliff and then to the summit.

After a successful summit at Mt. Pumori, we begin our descent from the Pumori base camp to Lobuche. We will stay the night at Lobuche and feast on yummy meals to celebrate a successful expedition.

We will continue to climb down from Lobuche to Tengboche, resting between the trek and admiring the scenic view. Also, make sure you stack up on tons of energy bars to keep you going. Overnight stay at Tengboche in a camp or a lodge.

For an hour from the bridge at Phungitenga, near Shanasha, the walk from Tengboche is mostly downhill on the main busy trail, with a few steep climbs. The long, winding path to Namche is very scenic. You can rest in the traditional villages of Khumjung and Khunde along the way. There is a chance to visit one of its monasteries, the only one with a Yeti Scalp. Overnight stay at Namche Bazaar.

The trek continues from Namche Bazaar to Phakding. Except for a few short uphill climbs, the trek is pleasant. We will stay the night at Phakding.

After a few hours of trek, we will return to Lukla (3404m), where the trip began. We'll take some time to reflect on the trek as a whole and the individual accomplishments of everyone who participated. You'll also have plenty of time to wander around town. Overnight stay at Lukla.

The day to return back to Kathmandu finally arrives. Marking an official end to the expedition of Mt. Ama Dablam and Mt. Pumori, we take a flight back to Kathmandu from Tenzing-Hillary airport in Lukla. Make sure you bid a proper farewell to this mighty land.

You can rest or go souvenir shopping once you arrive in Kathmandu. Also, if you want, we can go exploring other parts of Kathmandu. Kathmandu has one of the best heritage sightseeing. Our tour guides can assist you with both souvenir shopping and exploring. Make sure you make the best out of these two days before returning back home.
