Trails You Have Never Seen Before

Biking in Nepal may be evolving at breakneck speed, but the trails are centuries old, and there are a staggering number of them! Nobody knows how many kilometers of trails are out there waiting to be discovered, as the entire country is crisscrossed with walking trails that have been beaten smooth by untold generations of feet walking across the valley or the country for trade, and festivals, or family visits.

Mountain biking is an eco-friendly method to see this great nation, its geography, and its living heritage. Nepal has enough dirt roads and trails to satisfy any mountain biker's wildest ambition.

Moreover, you can plan on riding to exotic destinations such as Namche Bazaar and western Nepal for adventurous spirits. Mountain bikes are available for rent by the day or longer in several of the city's bicycle rental shops.

Kathmandu Valley Mountain Biking

The Kathmandu Valley is ideal for day treks from a luxury hotel and longer, more challenging expeditions in less frequented areas. Highlights include varied cultures, a customizable itinerary and riding style, and some spectacular routes regardless of riding type. Here is our top list for mountain biking in Nepal.

  • Shivapuri Helipad Trail: Within Shivapuri National Park, the Helipad Trail is one of Kathmandu Valley's most intriguing and meandering routes. This is a difficult trek that follows a small ridge all the way to Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu's northern outskirts. Also, the route includes rolling single tracks, quick downhill parts, and some hills.
  • Lakuri Bhanjyang Route:  Lakuri Bhanjyang is well-known as a hill station in Lalitpur District, close to Kathmandu Valley. Though Lakuri Bhanjyang is easily accessible by car, riding your bike is a fantastic opportunity to soak in the breathtaking scenery and local flavor. Lakuri Bhanjyang's vantage point is roughly 190m upwards in a northerly direction. Views of the whole Kathmandu Valley and a couple of the snow-capped Himalayas may be seen here.
  • Markhu Trail: Markhu, a tiny settlement, lies at the top of the vast Kulekhani reservoir. Markhu has spectacular panoramic scenery and the serene Indra Sarovar Lake, which is ideal for fishing and boating. The mountain bike path then switches to an all-off-road trail, which is slightly easier than the preceding stretch, with an elevation reduction of 1100m and a gain of 800m. Although this path is lengthy, you will get to see an authentic side of Nepal with stunning views of the valleys ahead.
  • Nagarkot Enduro MTB: Nagarkot hill takes you on the ridge with massive drops and steep switchbacks. You will feel like a winner after conquering this tail. The scenic villages, terraced farmlands, and thick forests will make your tiring uphill and crazy downhill ride worth it. Your ride starts at the Nagarkot View Tower, where you will begin to ride downhill. Next, get to Geodetic Observatory, travel west from the View Tower, and take the first left. After leaving the observatory, you'll head southwest to work the twisty single tracks.
  • Kakani Route: The secluded route includes some rising followed by spectacular descents, with numerous portions guiding you through deep forest to stunning waterfalls. You'll pass through army checkpoints along the road, where you'll have to submit your name in order to access Shivapuri-Nagarjun National Park. The track is simple, weaving your way down the main road while you ride. The following part of the path is a combination of downhill, single-track, and uphill and is possibly the greatest of the day's ride.
